  • In-Person Access: Where physical copies or access to the full case file is required, individuals can stop by the Dakota County courthouse where the case was filed to request inspection. Public access terminals are available at each courthouse for looking up cases at no cost. Additionally, visitors may ask staff at the administrator’s counter to issue copies of court documents for a fee. There is no fee for an uncertified copy.

  • Mail and Phone Requests: Individuals can submit the statewide copy request form to obtain copies of Dakota County court records via mail. Alternatively, they can write a letter to the court. However, each request should contain sufficient information and the appropriate copy fee (see below) for court staff to process it. If opting to receive the documents via mail, the request should enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) to facilitate return delivery.

Court staff in the Dakota County District Court do not typically process phone calls for court records.

Criminal Records Access in Dakota County

Dakota County Probate Records

The probate division of Dakota County District Court handles all Dakota County probate cases, including the administration of a deceased person’s estate, as well as contests of wills, trusts, conservatorships, and guardianships. Records generated within this division are known as the Dakota County probate records. While most probate records are generally public, certain records (e.g., guardianship and mental health reports) are kept confidential to protect the interests of parties involved.

Dakota County probate records can be retrieved from the MCRO system or by direct request (in person or via mail) to the court where the matter was filed.

Dakota County Family Court Records
